When you’re planning your personal brand session one of the key ingredients is your location. Your choice of backdrop can greatly affect the mood, tone and message of your professional portraits and making the right choice is important. Here are my top tips for coming up with a great backdrop to give your photos the right look and feel to match your brand.

– When considering a location take a look at your own workspace as an option. Often your own decor will speak to your aesthetic the best while having the bonus of including your tools of the trade and other meaningful props close at hand.

– If you don’t have a dedicated workspace, I highly recommend looking at renting a venue or studio where we can shoot. Airbnb and thisopenspace are both full of great options from cozy lofts to modern office spaces. Most venues will allow you to rent by the hour or half day as well, so be sure to enquire with the ones that catch your eye to find out their options!

– Don’t underestimate outdoor photography! Vancouver is a beautiful city and whether you’re interested in an urban backdrop, beaches or forest there’s something out there to suit your needs. When choosing your outdoor location it’s important to ask yourself what connects best with your client and resonates with your personality? For urban locations, downtown Vancouver and Mount Pleasant are my favorites for architecture and colour. If you’re looking for something more natural Jericho Beach Park, Pacific Spirit Park and Stanley Park are all great options.

I hope the above information proves useful to you! If there’s anything else I’ve left out or if you’d like additional information, don’t hesitate to contact me directly!
